Evansville North Instrumental Music

Students will have the opportunity to audition for

a wide variety of honors music organizations that include:

EVSC Honors Band and Honors Orchestra  -  The audition date for EVSC Honors Band and Honors Orchestra will be listed on the calendar of events.  Audition music will be distributed approximately 3 weeks prior.  Both groups rehearse for 3 hours once a week for approximately 9 weeks, from November through January.  Performances include a 3-day tour to a major metropolitan area (Chicago, St. Louis, Cincinnati, etc.), a local concert, and a performance at the annual This is Our Story

EVSC Honors Jazz Ensemble  -  The audition date will be in mid March.   Audition music will be distributed 3 weeks prior.  Following spring break, this group rehearses 2 hours once a week for six consecutive weeks.  Performances include a local tour, local concert, and performance at the annual This is Our Story.  Past special concert appearances have included tenor saxophonist Ernie Watts (NBC Tonight Show Band)  and Evansville native jazz pianist Stef Scaggiari.

Indiana Bandmasters Association (IBA) All-Region and All-District Bands  -  Students interested in being considered for these organizations will submit an application.   All-Region Band will include freshmen bandsmen.  All-District will include sophomore, junior, and senior musicians.  Rehearsals and performances are held for one weekend only, scheduled in mid November.  Membership in these organizations is a great resume builder for college scholarship applications.  More info and audition music can be obtained from the IBA Web Site.

Indiana All-State Orchestra  - The Indiana All-State Orchestra  is organized by the State Orchestra Teachers Association, in conjunction with the Indiana Music Educators Association convention that is held in Indianapolis in January. The Orchestra mails out audition materials in May of each year. Students who are involved in their school band/orchestra programs are eligible to apply.  Students must put together an audition tape that has the required music, major and minor scales and an excerpt from that student's State Solo. Once the tapes are done, students mail in the tapes in June. A panel of teachers will listen and evaluate all tapes, selecting the most outstanding for the orchestra.   The All-State Orchestra performs at the IMEA convention in Indianapolis in late January.  Information regarding All-State Orchestra, including downloadable practice parts and recordings, are available at: www.northcentralorchestra.org/2007_allstate_orchestra.htm. If you have any questions regarding the site or information available, please contact Mr. Soo Han, Director by e-mail at: soohohan@sbcglobal.net.

Indiana All-State Band  -  The Indiana Bandmasters Association sponsors a regular All-State Band and an "Honors" All-State Band.  Audition music is distributed in late November.  Auditions take place at local sites in mid January.  All participants are required to attend all rehearsals and the performance for the All-State Festival weekend (March 9, 10, and 11, 2007).  Rehearsals and performances are in Indianapolis.  For more info, visit the IBA web site.

Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestras  - The Evansville Philharmonic Youth Orchestras offer performance opportunities to tri-state area high school and middle school students that have musical talent.  There are two groups; a high school orchestra (EPYO) with 78 members in grades 9—12, and a junior high orchestra (EPYO II), with 67 members in grades 6—9.  Both have been performing since 1993.   For more info, contact the Philharmonic.
