Jazz Program |
|
There are three jazz organizations that perform at North High School . . .
North Jazz Combo
This group is comprised of a select small group of wind players and a rhythm section. The Jazz Combo performs for special functions that call for a smaller instrumentation. Emphasis is placed on jazz improvisation skills. A highlight for the Jazz Combo was a performance for the newly-organized EVSC Foundation .
North Jazz Ensemble
This big-band instrumentation includes 5 saxes, 4 –5 trumpets, 4—5 trombones/low brass and a full rhythm section with guitar, piano, bass, drum set, and vibes. The Jazz Ensemble also performs for concerts and special functions. Historical highlights include a performance in concert with legendary trumpeter Maynard Ferguson. The Jazz Connections Concert in the spring of 2009 also included a performance with the Castle High School Jazz Ensembles and a North Jazz Alumni combo.

In 2007, we also welcomed the North Jazz Alumni in concert. For that program, Henderson, Ky. native, Pat McCormick graciously appeared and donated his performance time to the North Band. Pat, who passed away from cancer in 2009, was a tremendous musician and a friend to so many. Thanks, Pat, for sharing all of your talents! |
