What is it?

A class for those interested in learning more about the written aspects of music!

Who is it

geared for?

You should know how to read the pitches on either treble or bass clef and you should know how to count basic whole note, half note, quarter note, eighth note rhythms and rests.  We will take it from there.  If you have experience singing or playing an instrument, that is a plus!

What will

I learn?

Here is a sample of what will be covered:

piano keyboard recognition, reading various clefs (treble, bass, C, alto, tenor),  pitches on the grand staff, basic piano skills,

time signatures (simple and compound duple, triple, quadruple; odd meter); rhythm patterns; intervals (quality and quantity); scale construction (major, 3 forms of minor, whole tone, modes,  etc.); triads and their inversions (major, minor, augmented, diminished); chordal harmonies; chord progressions; melodic construction

Anything

else?

You will learn to use “Finale,” a computer assisted music notation program.  You will learn about music arranging (vocal and instrumental) and create music to be performed from skills learned in the class.
